The school was founded in 1912 by Orlando S Johnson, a wealthy coal tycoon. The school is found on 41 acres of land. In 1964, the school was a post-secondary school that required its students to be high school graduates of be high school equivalency certified. Then in 1966, the school changed its name to Johnson Trade School to the Johnson School of Technology. Then in 1985, the school changes its name again to Johnson Technical Institute. In 1997, the school was approved to become a 2-year college. And finally in 2001, the school changed its name to its current name, Johnson College.
JC offers 13 different associate degrees and programs that students can avail of for general education courses. These courses include Computer Information Technology, Electrical Construction & Maintenance Technology, Electronic Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Precision Machining Technology, Architectural Drafting & Design Technology, Distribution & Supply Logistics Technology, Radiologic Technology, Veterinary Technology, Automotive Technology, Carpentry & Cabinetmaking Technology, Diesel Truck Technology Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Technology, and a Welding Certificate Program.
The school has an average student to faculty ratio of 17:1. Students that graduate JC have a placement rate of 97% based on recent class statistics. Johnson College also recently had record freshmen class, taking in 471 students. JC competes in NJCAA sporting events. They field teams in basketball, cross country, and bowling. The school colors are blue and grey, and the school nickname are the Jaguars.
